'Paranormal Activity 4' Trailer: Five Creepy Moments - MTV.com

With October and Halloween not too far in our future, it was only a matter of time before we saw the first signs of "Paranormal Activity 4," the latest entry into the perennially profitable found-footage franchise.

For the latest visit from an invisible demon, the series leaves behind the '80s from "PA3" and instead moves the action forward to years after the events of "PA2."

Here are our five key scenes from the "Paranormal Activity 4" trailer:

Back to the Present
Take a look at that timestamp. The "Paranormal Activity" series has returned to the present after a brief trip back to 1988 for the third installment. For those keeping track, the November 2011 setting moves the present-day action forward five years after the abduction of Hunter by his Aunt Katie. The retro installment of the series had to rely on clever tricks, like the rotating fan, to achieve the signature scares, but for the latest installment, "PA" is getting a welcome dose of 21st-century technology.

Toby Joins Skype
The biggest shakeup to the format comes with the addition of video chatting to the equation. The main character in the trailer chats with a boy over her webcam and shares with him some of the creepy goings-on after the new neighbors moved in next door. The new lead marks the first time the series has focused on a young hauntee, so the inclusion of video chat makes sense, given the format.

Hunter Grows Up
The last time we saw young Hunter Rey, he was the baby in the crib being abducted by his possessed aunt. With five years since the events of "PA2," Hunter has spent as long living with a demon. It's no wonder the kid ends up scaring the neighbors. In the trailer, he stands outside the main characters' house and, like any good possessed child, knows exactly when to look up at the window.

BEHIND YOU!!!
It wouldn't be a trailer for "Paranormal Activity" without the appearance of a shadowy figure, now would it? After our lead catches Hunter scoping out the house from the driveway, all of the doors in the house begin to open, or so the world's strangest alarm system informs us.

A Familiar Symbol
As the title card begins to appear at the end of the trailer, the "4" briefly changes into the symbol predominantly featured in "PA3," you know, the one that looks like the Deathly Hallows. In the previous film, that symbol belonged to the coven of witches that is responsible for bringing the demon around in the first place. It seems like we have not seen the last of those creepy old ladies.
