Alan Rickman Absolutely Crushed In Iconic Villain Roles, And It Apparently Led To A Wild ‘Mandate’ In Hollywood

The late actor Alan Rickman may have never been nominated for an Oscar , but his unforgettable performances left a huge mark on cinema. Particularly, his masterful performances of portraying villains in movies like Die Hard and Rob in Hood: Prince of Thieves have made Rickman one of the most compelling actors of this generation. Apparently, the British actor's ability to crush iconic villain roles led to a wild "mandate" in Hollywood about how they should be written going forward. Alan Rickman absolutely crushed his first major film role as terrorist leader Hans Gruber in Die Hard (which can be streamed on your Hulu subscription ). For someone who originally didn't want his film debut to be an action movie , Rickman brought Hans Gruber to life with his cold demeanor and darkly humorous wit, stealing the show. But take it from another actor known for playing hated villains, Jason Isaacs , to reveal to Collider about the wild "mandate" that his...

BuzzFeed / Perry Graham / Peacock / Getty Images We're meeting due to the latter, as the actor is partnering with Virgin Atlantic to celebrate the airline's new LAX Clubhouse. He's narrated a bedtime story, fittingly titled, "ReLAX and Unwind with Alan Cumming." Whoopi Goldberg dramatically collapses during View segment

How Whoopi Goldberg dramatically protested a celebrity gossip segment that pushed her to the limit Whoopi Goldberg's patience with celebrity relationship gossip reached its theatrical conclusion during Thursday morning's episode of "The View" when the moderator literally collapsed onto the table in protest of a discussion about Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's divorce. The moment came after earlier discussions in the episode about Pete Hegseth's national security scandal, highlighting the show's characteristic shift between political topics and celebrity culture commentary. When celebrity gossip becomes too much The drama unfolded during the show's signature "Hot Topics" segment. As the conversation shifted to the high-profile separation between Lopez and Affleck, tensions quickly escalated among the co-hosts. The celebrity couple, who rekindled their early 2000s romance before marrying in 2022, recently announced their split ahea...

Lowell, Tate McRae win big for global hits at Juno Awards industry gala

Lowell poses for photos after winning songwriter of the year during the Juno Awards Gala in Vancouver on Saturday. (Darryl Dyck/The Canadian Press) Tate McRae took home four awards, including artist and album of the year, at the Juno Awards industry ceremony on Saturday — although the global popstar was absent because she was booked to appear at a music festival in Brazil. "I just want to thank everyone at the Junos, and all my fans in Canada who've been with me since the start of this wild ride," the singer wrote in a text message read out loud on stage. The Junos hardware was handed out during the gala in Vancouver where prizes in more than 40 categories were awarded ahead of Sunday's televised ceremony, like the new Juno recognizing South Asian music. Elizabeth Lowell Boland won the first songwriter of the year award created for non-performers. She picked up the prize for her work behind the scenes on Beyonce's Cowboy Carter album and the Beaches...

Hollywood is entering its Trump era

Hollywood is quietly bowing to the new era of Trump. As big entertainment companies have cut back on their corporate DEI efforts, creatives and their reps say there's also been a perceptible chill on liberal themes in programming. No one is issuing diktats, but the shift has manifested in subtle ways, according to 10 writers, producers, and talent reps who spoke with Business Insider. It's taken the form of studio execs asking producers to tweak storylines and characters — or nixing them altogether — and companies backing off past directives to  ensure casts were diverse . Zoe Marshall, a feature and TV writer whose credits include CBS's "Elsbeth," said producers and studios had explicitly told her that certain storylines — such as some involving queer and social justice themes — were no longer acceptable. "Over the course of my career, I have never felt like I had to actually consider what was going on in the administration when I was thi...

‘A f--k up of epic proportions’: Trump celebrity loyalist wants top official fired

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy joined other conservatives to bash President Donald Trump's administration over "Signalgate" on Wednesday. The Trump administration is under fire after The Atlantic revealed Monday that its top editor was inadvertently included in a group text on messaging app Signal with senior national security officials. The Atlantic reported that it was National Security Adviser Michael Waltz who appeared to have added editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to the group earlier this month. Portnoy, who endorsed Trump last year, criticized his administration over its defense of the texting scandal in a six-minute video posted to social media on Wednesday. He called on Trump to fire Waltz over the mistake and emphasized that Goldberg is "telling the truth." "In this new administration, you want to take accountability. Trump, you may love Michael Waltz. You love Pete Hegseth. You may love these guys. Somebody has to g...

Blockbusters to Bust: A Cautionary Tale for Swaggering Hollywood Indie Studios

"They want crap," Carolco executive Peter Hoffman once told the Los Angeles Times, "Every time people tell you they don't, it's bull. They want crap." Hoffman was reflecting on the lackluster audience response to the Oscar-nominated Music Box (1989), while sci-fi action blockbusters such as Total Recall (1990) were filling coffers like mad. Long before independent production houses like Skydance, A24, and Blumhouse were making waves alongside the major studios, Carolco made its name in Hollywood as a backer of lavish action films that included the Rambo series, Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and Cliffhanger (1993). Carolco's rise and fall was as epic as one of their blockbuster action films. It was known as "The Carolco Premium." While rival indies TriStar and Orion had their share of respectable projects, Carolco led a rise of independent studios by creating and maintaining a blockbuster brand for making the most extravagant ac...
