This growing industry could help Las Vegas diversify its economy

When Martin Schiller decided to launch his own company based off the research he did at UNLV, he picked Las Vegas despite the prospect of being one of only a handful of biotechnology firms in the valley. Founded in 2017, Heligenics researches how medicine can be improved and how genetics play into the effectiveness of medical care. Schiller is looking to not only improve medicine for everyone but also to be a main pillar of an emerging biotech sector in Southern Nevada. "Being here, I knew I needed a lot less money than I did if I were in downtown San Francisco," said Schiller, executive director of the Nevada Institute of Personalized Medicine at UNLV. While his day job is at UNLV, Schiller operates Heligenics out of Roseman University, which is planning a $550 million expansion of its Summerlin campus that will add more office space and a medical school. Roseman offering a place for Heligenics and other companies to operate is vital as th...

Meghan and Harry’s $100 Million Netflix Deal is a Hollywood Miss | Exclusive

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's lucrative Spotify deal fell apart in 2023, Bill Simmons, The Ringer's founder and managing director, was incensed . "I wish I had been involved in the 'Meghan and Harry leave Spotify' negotiation," Simmons, the head of podcast innovation and monetization at Spotify, which owns The Ringer, said on his self-titled show. "'The F***ing Grifters.' That's the podcast we should have launched with them." Simmons' astonishing comments followed the collapse of the Montecito, Calif.-based Duke and Duchess of Sussex's $20 million deal with Spotify, signed in December of 2020. They delivered just 12 episodes of Markle's "Archetypes" podcast. But the Spotify contract paled in comparison to the estimated $100 million Netflix agreed in September 2020 to pay them, a deal which produced a documentary series "Harry & Meghan" two years later — and little else since then. ...

As the world grapples with the urgent need to transition to renewable energy sources, Africa stands at the forefront of this monumental shift. While the benefits of renewable energy in combating climate change and ensuring sustainable development are widely acknowledged, there is another sector poised to reap the rewards of this transition: the entertainment industry. In recent years, Africa's entertainment industry has experienced exponential growth, fueled by a burgeoning population, increased urbanization, and a growing middle class.
