Actor Lane Garrison was charged Thursday with misdemeanor battery for hitting his ex-girlfriend in the lobby of her Beverly Hills apartment Saturday, the L.A. County district attorney’s office said.

Garrison, 31, who is on parole for a 2007 vehicular manslaughter conviction, is due in Beverly Hills Superior Court on Friday for arraignment. He is being held without bail because of a potential parole violation; he was convicted in a fatal drunk driving crash that killed a boy.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Elizabeth Marks said Garrison struck Ashley Mattingly as the two were exiting an elevator in an apartment building in the 300 block of North Palm Drive on Saturday. When witnesses approached the pair, Garrison allegedly ran from the building.

If convicted, he faces up to one year in county jail and a $2,000 fine.

Garrison's attorney, Harland Braun, said his client gave a full statement to Beverly Hills police investigators, refuting the abuse allegations by his ex-girlfriend.

The arrest came almost three years after Garrison was released from state prison after serving less than half of a three-year, four-month sentence for a Beverly Hills drunk driving crash in 2006 in which a teenage boy was killed.
