This week on American Idol 2012 performance night was an interesting mixture of delightful surprises and unexpected suck. This actually went quite well with the 80â²s theme of the evening â" a decade that was both wildly fun and horribly cringe-worthy at the same time. So who were the American Idol winners and losers of 80â²s night?
WARNING: AMERICAN IDOL 2012 SPOILERS AHEAD
For our first winner of American Idol 2012 80â²s night, Iâm actually going to call it for a contestant that I normally donât like at all. This guy may just end up going home anyway, despite a much improved evening, but I do have to acknowledge it was one of the better performances of the evening.
I have been waiting for DeAndre Brackensick to get the boot for weeks. He isnât a terrible singer, but he just does not come across as a star to me. I can see him as a backup singer or maybe as one of those cute, Disney style singer/actor combinations. As far as being the next great thing, I just donât think DeAndre Brackensick has the âitâ factor.
Still, even though Iâm not a fan, I have to give DeAndre props for his opening performance on American Idol 2012 tonight. His rendition of the Top 40 hit âI Like Itâ by DeBarge may have actually been one of his better songs of the season. Jennifer Lopez âliked itâ and said DeAndre âsounded amazing.â Steven Tyler called it âtotally captivatingâ and Randy Jackson even said it was âthe perfect songâ for him.
As for the duet, I found it a bit ironic that Hollie Cavanagh and DeAndre Brackensick ended up singing together. I personally think these two are the bottom two singers and one of them will be going home this week. The two actually ended up sounding rather decent on the Pointer Sistersâ âIâm So Excited,â but putting Hollie right up against DeAndre on an upbeat tempo song just made her look weaker by comparison â" even though I think she is actually the stronger singer.
So what does this mean for the American Idol 2012 elimination results Thursday night? Well, it could very well mean that Hollie Cavanagh ends up going home this week instead of my original prediction of DeAndre finally getting knocked out of the competition by the voters. Iâm still going to pick DeAndre for the bottom three this week even though he did manage to finally impress me just a tad.
