Soul singer Gladys Knight got the boot on "Dancing With the Stars" Tuesday night, after dancing for her life in the dancing duel with Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower.
Despite giving her last jive her all and having judge Carrie Ann Inaba on her side, the other two judges felt Feganâs jive was the better dance and sent Knight packing.
âI am so just amazed at this journey,â said Knight after learning she was eliminated. âIt's been absolutely extraordinary."
Knight, also called âthe Empress of Soul,â added that she was âoverjoyedâ to have been in the competition and wished the remaining celebs âthe bestâ in the weeks to come.
Dance expert Len Goodman, who is known for being the Simon Cowell of DWTS, had an emotional moment when he realized it was the end of the road for Knight.
"If I could judge purely with my heart, you would be at the top of my leaderboard," Goodman said.
Other couples who came close to Knightâs fate included TV host Maria Menounos and her partner Derek Hough, as well as Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
"It's really, really mind-blowing to me what has gone on,â said Menounos. âI feel like an old lady right now."Â
Gilbert, who a few weeks ago had a concussion after performing and was rushed to the emergency room, said this has been one wild ride for her.
"[I] wasn't prepared for how exhilarating it is when it goes well,â Gilbert said. â[But] how devastating it is when it doesn't go well."
âI have no idea where the reserves of energy and heart are going to come from for the next five weeks,â added the former child actress.
Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas, who had a near perfect score, remain on top of the leader board as well as NFLâs Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd.
William Levy and Cheryl Burke were safe as well, but might have to tone down the sex next week if theyâd like to impress the judges.
