Maria Menounos and Derek Hough got some flack for their onscreen kiss on Dancing With the Stars Monday night. Halfway through their sexy salsa, Menounos grabbed Hough's face and gave him a big kiss on the lips.
After the couple's routine, judge Carrie Ann Inaba argued that dancing is about the illusion -- and called their kiss a "sell out" adding,"I don't think you needed to kiss."
Fellow contestant Gavin DeGraw had the opposite reaction to the smooch.
"It was pretty hot, but honestly I wanted to see a little more tongue action," DeGraw, 35, told Us Weekly after the show. "But if they are going to go for it, then really you should just go there."
Regardless of Inaba's critique, Menounos, 33, and Hough, 26, are glad they finally kissed after teasing it in an earlier performance.
"Last time I failed basically, so she gave me a chance to redeem myself!" Hough told Us Weekly.
"Tonight it was just fun. We thought, 'Letâs just do it.' The song [Ricky Martin's "The Cup of Life"] was such a big build up," he said. "[I said] 'we have to do something, we canât just do a dip. Canât just take the shirt off, everybody does that.' "
Menounos' suggestion: "She said, 'What if we just make out?' I said, 'Uh okay!' " Hough recalled.
