On Monday night, the Warner Theatre was the setting for the theater community's most elegant award ceremony, the Helen Hayes Awards, hosted by TheatreWashington and designed to give awards to Washington's most talented theater artists in every field. Hosted by local actresses Holly Twyford and Felicia Curry, the ceremony included a Helen Hayes tribute sponsored by Jaylee Mead to actor and arts advocate Kevin Spacey. Another major award, the John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company, was given to Faction of Fools.
"Ruined" at Arena Stage received the award for this year's Outstanding Resident Play. The award for Outstanding Resident Musical went to Signature Theatre's "Hairspray."

Outstanding Non-Resident Production: Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" - Arena Stage
Outstanding Ensemble, Resident Play: "King Lear" - Theater Synetic
Outstanding Lead Actress, Non-Resident Production: Cate Blanchett: "Uncle Vanya" - Kennedy Center
Outstanding Director, Resident Play: Aaron Posner: "Cyrano" - Folger Theatre
The Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical was awarded to Marc Acito for his "Birds of a Feather" at the Hub Theatre.
