Drake's VMA-Nominated 'HYFR' Offers 'Insight' Into His World - MTV.com

It was an unforgettable party, like hip-hop has never seen before, and Drake was the host. No one knew quite what to expect from Drizzy's "HYFR" video, but when the Director-X-helmed clip arrived in April, it was met with a resounding "mazel tov," and now it's up for Best Hip-Hop Video at the Video Music Awards.

The clip â€" said to have been shot October 24, 2011, Drake's 25th birthday â€" finds the Jewish rapper in a synagogue getting re-bar-mitzvah'd as a recommitment to his faith. Not only did the MC's family show up to celebrate, so did Lil Wayne, Birdman, DJ Khaled, Mack Maine and R&B star Trey Songz.

As Drake professes his faith, his YMCMB cohorts sit in the pews patiently waiting for the party to begin. There was no dress code â€" or Weezy, who showed up in a panda mask, just chose to ignore it. Drizzy smashes into his cake, Trey guzzles an entire bottle of tequila and Wayne smashes his skateboard on a banquet table.

"I think it's just insight into my genuine character. I think that's what's most entertaining about it," Drake told MTV News of what he calls the most talked-about video in his career video back in May. "The fun being had in the video is real fun and insight into my mind, because I thought of this. This is a Drake moment, a lot like the talking [I do] onstage, because that's really me."

The Take Care MC has a great video, but he is up against some pretty tough competition. G.O.O.D. Music's "Mercy," the Throne's "Paris," Nicki Minaj's "Beez in the Trap" and Childish Gambino's "Heartbeat" are also in contention for Best Hip-Hop Video.
