MTV to end 'Jersey Shore' after upcoming season - Detroit Free Press

Sit down, please, spray-tanned fist pumpers: MTV made it official Thursday and announced that it's pulling the plug on "Jersey Shore" after airing the show's upcoming sixth season, which begins Oct. 4.

Since the beachside booze-fest began in December 2009, ambitious New Jersey natives like Michael (the Situation) Sorrentino, Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi and Jennifer (JWoww) Farley have become sensations.

Five million viewers were tuning in to the show by the end of the first season, and at its peak, "Shore" was drawing an audience of more than 8 million. The show even spawned a couple of spin-offs: "The Pauly D Project" and "Snooki & JWoww." But with the Situation running into trouble earlier this year and landing in rehab and Snooki giving birth to her baby Sunday, "Jersey Shore" is losing steam.

Fans can start saying so long as early as next week. MTV will air a series retrospective titled "Gym, Tan, Look Back," at 6 p.m. Thursday before the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

Rimes seeking treatment

Country singer LeAnn Rimes has checked into a treatment center in search of emotional help.

"LeAnn has voluntarily entered a 30-day in-patient treatment facility to cope with anxiety and stress," her representative told www.people.com.

Rimes, who checked in on Wednesday, the day after her 30th birthday, says she hopes to emerge from her stay with better tools to deal with life.

"This is just a time for me to emotionally check out for a second and take care of myself and come back in 30 days as the best 30-year-old woman I can be," she said in a statement.

"All the things in my life will be there when I get out, but you know what? I'm hoping they're not going to affect me as much. I'll have the tools to know how to deal with them."

Rimes, who was previously married to Michigan native Dean Sheremet, is currently married to former "Playboy Club" star Eddie Cibrian.

Trouble in Holly's world?

Uh oh. On Thursday, just 24 hours or so after Pasquale Rotella announced how much he loves girlfriend Holly Madison, news arrived via www.people.com that Rotella could be looking at 13 years in the slammer.

Rotella, the founder and CEO of event-production company Insomniac, is due in court Sept. 25. He was one of six individuals indicted in L.A. in April on 29 counts of bribery, embezzlement, conspiracy and conflict of interest. He has maintained his innocence on all charges during a 13-month-long investigation, People reports.

Earlier this week, Rotella said that he and Madison, the former star of "Holly's World" and "Girls Next Door," were "counting down the days" until Madison gives birth to their first child.
