Mariah Carey has dismissed speculation of a feud between herself and her new American Idol colleague Nicki Minaj.
Rapper Nicki and country star Keith Urban were yesterday revealed to have been signed up for the show, where they will join Mariah and Randy Jackson as judges.
But even though Mariah was reported to have been unhappy about the prospect of being joined by another woman on the panel, she has laughed off suggestions of a feud developing.
"How are we gonna feud in two days? A feud takes a little longer to spread out," Mariah told MTV News.
"It's fun, it's music, it's singing, it's laughter," she added, while Minaj chuckled along with her, looking amused by the rumours.
And while reaction to Nicki's arrival on the show has apparently been mixed, one expert said it was an astute move by the show's bosses.
MJ Santilli, who runs Idol fan site MJsBigBlog.com, told MTV News: "I'm looking forward to Nicki shutting down the naysayers. I have never seen such a negative reaction to a prospective judge when the Nicki rumours initially surfaced.
"For some folks, Nicki is too weird and profane for Idol. But I see this polarized reaction as a good thing for the panel. The American Idol core audience, which grows older and older every year, needs a shakeup."
