'So You Think You Can Dance' Crowns Ballet Dancers Season Champs - MTV.com

It all came down to this. After weeks of auditions and eliminations, season nine of "So You Think You Can Dance" crowned its first double winners Tuesday night. Eliana Girard and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp were selected as America's favorite female and male dancer in a thrilling night of final performances that included one from "Call Me Maybe" sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, who debuted her latest track "This Kiss."

Six of the season's judges were present for the finale: Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Adam Shankman, Debbie Allen, Lil' C and Tyce Diorio. Like finales past, they were given the task of selecting their favorite routines of the season. They ranged from Travis Wall's "Titanic"-inspired contemporary routine to NappyTabs' lyrical number "Love Cats."

It was a memorable night, indeed. The dance competition series took several looks back to their best moments from the audition tour, including our favorites like the Ninja Twins and the famed exorcist dancer, and pulled at our heart strings with an emotional look back at the final four's journey.

Contemporary dancer Tiffany Maher and inspiring animator Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer rounded out the top four. The season's underdog, Maher delivered week after week and the judges often referred to her as a "firecracker." As an untrained dancer, Spencer was the ultimate crowd favorite, introducing animation to the masses. "You stole the season," Lythgoe told a humbled Spencer, who wasn't the best technical dancer but certainly had one of the best hearts. Wespi-Tschopp was often criticized for not letting loose, although once he shed his inhibitions, the svelte ballet dancer soared beyond belief. And then there was Girard, the judge favorite and the one dancer who received little to any negative feedback during her entire run.

When the announcement was made of favorite female dancer, it was almost no surprise when Girard won and dropped to the floor; the announcement of favorite male dancer was a bit more shocking, as "SYTYCD" history has shown America usually chooses personality over technique, so when Wespi-Tschopp's name was delivered over Spencer's, it was a real moment. America got it right.

It's not over for the "SYTYCD" dancers just yet, though. The top 10 will get ready to tour their show across America in October.

  1. yeah, american dancers are one of the best in the world. But in my opinion, korean dancers are getting better and better every other year and they can beat some of the best dancing teams in the world due to their unmatched skills and fitness.

James Devaney/WireImage Suri Cruise leaves Chelsea Piers. Katie Holmes reportedly enrolled her in a pricey private school near their Chelsea apartment. Suri Cruise is set to start first grade in style at a pricey new Manhattan private school this year. Katie Holmes enrolled 6-year-old Suri at Avenues, a nearly $40,000-a-year school set to open this fall, Life & Style reported. “Katie has eagerly been telling Suri all about the lunchrooms, basketball courts and different activities Avenues offers. Suri’s really excited about it,” a source told the magazine. The Chelsea school, which overlooks the High Line and isn’t far from Holmes’ apartment in the same neighborhood, boasts a rooftop playground and a fitness center, plus a gym with full-sized basketball and volleyball courts. The for-profit Tenth Ave. school stresses bilingual education, so Suri will learn in Mandarin or Spanish in addition to English. The so-called “world school” plans to open bran...

Review: 'The Raven' is a feeble fictional story - CNN

John Cusack stars as Edgar Allan Poe in "The Raven." John Cusack plays Edgar Allan Poe in "The Raven" Peter Travers: Cusack, who plays Poe with just the right blend of romantic longing and tortuous doubt Travers: Cusack captures that desperation vividly enough ( Rolling Stone ) -- There's a promising premise on the boil here. What if Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) spent the last days of his life trying to nab a serial killer who's been using macabre ideas from Poe's short stories to off his victims? "The Pit and the Pendulum," anyone? OK, "The Raven" sounds like a TV series that gets canceled soon after its debut. But it has compensations, chief of which is John Cusack , who plays Poe with just the right blend of romantic longing and tortuous doubt. Director James McTeigue (" V for Vendetta "), an assistant to the Wachowski brothers on " The Matrix ," pulls us i...
