Industry veteran launches One44 strategic sponsorship firm


One44 Group is a new San Diego agency that focuses on providing clients with great returns on strategic sponsorships.

Founder and CEO Josh Gross said the company connects great companies — and even better people — in pursuit of incremental revenue, primarily through corporate partnerships and marketing.

Gross spent the past 20 years in the sports and entertainment industry, including in several senior leadership positions. He was most recently the vice president of business operations of the San Diego Seals.

One44 specializes in sponsorship sales representation, strategic brand building, brand activation and asset identification and valuation.

Gross said the company prides itself on personal attention and a creative process that involves narrative-based sales and activation.

SDCCD communications team wins awards

San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) communications and public relations team recently took home four Pro Awards from the Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO) of California at the organization's annual conference April 13 in Los Angeles.

The SDCCD team won a gold award in the notecard/invitation category for a special thank you mailer for San Diego Promise donors.

Additionally, the team earned a silver and bronze award in the video profile category and a bronze award for its With Excellence magazine.

Honorees included Claudia Azcona-Mercado, graphic artist/photographer; Leslie Stump, publications editor and supervisor; and David Brooks, multimedia specialist.

"I am incredibly proud of the work our team does every day in support of the District and its colleges," said Jack Beresford, SDCCD director of communications and public relations. "We have some amazingly talented professionals who are helping the district better engage with students and the broader San Diego community."

The Pro Awards recognize the best of the best at California's 117 community colleges, which collectively form the largest system of public higher education in the United States.
