Does The Cast Of Celebrity Big Brother Earn More Than Houseguests Appearing On The Dramatic Original Big Brother Series?

The popular reality TV series Big Brother might have the most interesting premise of all. Each episode is about strangers living in the same house and agreeing to be watched by cameras who will capture all the drama. While the cast members are hoping to win $750,000, they do make money while on the show. And many Big Brother contestants have become rich over the years.

While some reality shows don't pay at all, the Big Brother cast does get paid to appear on the reality series. And it seems like the big names who are cast on Celebrity Big Brother must be well compensated. How much do stars make on Celebrity Big Brother?

Do The Big Brother Cast Members Earn A Salary?

Shooting Big Brother can be tough. The hours are long and there's a ton of pressure. Thankfully, there is some real money involved, which must make at least some of the shooting days a bit easier. While the Big Brother cast members are each hoping to win $750,000 at the end of every season, they actually do earn a salary as well. This is definitely rare. If contestants win money, they don't usually earn a salary as well. This sets Big Brother apart from some other reality series.

The Big Brother cast makes $1,000 each week, according to Page Six. Season 19's Elena Davies was interviewed on the Trading Secrets podcast by Jason Tartick and she said that "We're paid a stipend per week. $1,000 per week, as long as you film."

Elena added, "I got paid the entire 13 weeks stipend or whatever. It was $1,000 a week, but I also won a competition that was a luxury comp."

According to Page Six, she made $18,000 for her season of Big Brother because she was given $5,000 for the "luxury competition." Elena also said on the podcast, "Say you are the first person sent home and you only film six hours in the house, you get your thousand."

That definitely seems like a good salary, especially if someone really wants to be on Big Brother. It seems that being a cast member is a memorable experience. And it's great that the cast members don't feel that they are working for hours upon hours without any money to show for it.

There are a few reality shows that have been on the air for a long time. Survivor premiered in 2000 and has had 44 seasons. Big Brother has also been around for decades. The first episode premiered in 2000 as well and there have been 24 seasons.

Do Celebrity Big Brother Cast Members Earn More Than The Big Brother Cast?

While Big Brother contestants can make several thousand dollars for their season, their salaries are definitely lower than what stars bring in. Fans of Celebrity Big Brother likely expect to hear that stars are paid really high salaries for their time on the spin-off. And that's absolutely true.

Celebrity Big Brother cast members are paid $100,000, according to TMZ. The publication also reported that they are hoping to win $250,000. The prize on Celebrity Big Brother is lower than the prize on Big Brother. But since the cast members make more money in general, that seems logical.

The Daily Mail reported that some stars earn even more than that, however. According to The Daily Mail, Omarosa Manigault Newman was going to be paid $450,000. And Caitlyn Jenner is said to have made $500,000 for her time on Celebrity Big Brother.

Omarosa Manigault Newman was Donald Trump's aide and became a cast member on Celebrity Big Brother shortly after leaving that political position. She said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "It happened really fast. Really, really fast. My last day at the White House was the 20th and my first day in the Big Brother house was the 31st."

Newman also told The Hollywood Reporter that she was glad to be part of Celebrity Big Brother after watching the original series Big Brother for a while. She said, "I've been a Big Brother superfan, so to play the game that I love 20 seasons later and to do it with some incredible celebrities, it was incredible."

It makes sense that the Celebrity Big Brother cast makes more money than people who appear on Big Brother. After all, they are big stars who are hopefully drawing in viewers.

There have been some great cast members on Celebrity Big Brother over the years. Season 1 featured actresses Keshia Knight Pulliam and Shannon Elizabeth, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville, and musician Mark McGrath. Season 2 featured actors Jonathan Bennett and Joey Lawrence, signer Tamar Braxton, and Lindsay Lohan's mom Dina Lohan.

And season 3 of Celebrity Big Brother included two Real Housewives: Teddi Mellencamp from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Cynthia Bailey from The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Chris Kirkpatrick of NSYNC fame was also a cast member.

While some stars seem happy to have appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, it's not for everyone. Tom Green appeared in season 2 of the reality series and told Global News in an interview that he didn't love it.

Green called it "a competitive environment" and said, "The thing that might not be so apparent on TV is that everybody is trying to knock everybody else off. It's almost like an all-out brawl in there."

Green added to Global News, "There was not a lot of fun being had in the house for the last couple of weeks — it was a very dark and sinister environment. I tried to keep it light in my own way. Kato and I would play pool and step back, almost commiserate and laugh at the absurdity of it all."

He also said that it was fine to leave the show: "I'm thrilled to be in my own home and out of that agonizing, surreal place!"

Even if some stars don't like appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, it definitely sounds great to take home at least $100,000 for one season of reality TV.
