Celebrity Gogglebox have confirmed former Strictly Come Dancing contestants Richie Anderson and Ellie Simmonds are joining the cast of the hit Channel 4 show.

Richie and Ellie both appeared on the 2022 series of the BBC show, but have since swapped the dancefloor for the sofa, sharing their views on the must-watch telly of the day.

Channel 4 announced their appoin tment on Twitter, sharing a photo of the two pulling shocked expressions.

"Waltzing their way to #CelebrityGogglebox from the #Strictly Ballroom, give a warm welcome to @EllieSimmonds1 and @richie_anderson!," read the caption. "Catch them tomorrow at 9pm, @Channel4."

It seems Richie and Ellie struck up a friendship while appearing on Strictly.

Paralympic champion swimmer Ellie Simmonds was the sixth contestant to leave the show that year. She and partner Nikita Kuzmin were sent home after a tense dance-off with EastEnders actress Molly Rainford.

Meanwhile, BBC Radio 2 presenter Richie Anderson was partnered up with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice and left the competition after Movie Week.

Richie shared his excitement at appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside Ellie with his followers online. "Snacks ✅ drinks ✅ comfys on ✅ grab the remote and get us on that sofa 🛋️," read his caption.

"Excited to be putting the telly world to rights with my beautiful friend and Strictly sis @elliesimmonds on this series of Channel 4’s Celebrity Gogglebox. Can’t wait for you to join us our beautiful blue sofa in Birmingham. We’ll be making our debut this Friday."

Two other new celebrity guests have been announced for this Friday's episode (June 30). Countdown legend Susie Dent will join author and ex-MP Gyles Brandreth for some sofa viewing too.

This isn't the first time the pair have come together, with Brandreth and Dent hosts of the popular comedy podcast Something Rhymes with Purple.

Celebrity Gogglebox airs and streams on Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
