Celebrity Cruises Inc. defeated a false imprisonment and emotional distress lawsuit brought by Filipino employees who were kept aboard a ship for 58 days as the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Ryan Maunes Maglana and Francis Karl Bugayong failed to allege which law Celebrity violated for their false imprisonment claim, and the delay in disembarking the crew members "may be seen as negligent or frowned upon," but didn't "exceed all possible bounds of decency," the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida ruled June 30.
