Hollywood, FL, Firefighters Encounter Hoarding Conditions at House Fire

Tons of trash created issues for Hollywood firefighters trying to battle a house fire.

"That was our biggest challenge. Crews knew right away that this was going to be a hoarder type situation just by what they saw from the exterior," Hollywood Fire Rescue Chief James Russo told WSVN.

"As soon as they tried to make entry, there were actually commingled [storage] trays and different storage garbage, I guess you would say," the chief added.

The debris in the backyard and around the house is visible from Google Maps' satellite image from space, the station reported.

After years of complaints from neighbors, he city deemed the home as an abatement, which would have allowed hem to clean it up. Then, the fire happened.

The homeowner was not present when the fire occurred.
