Celebrity Gogglebox star says she 'wouldn't be working' if she hadn't lost 3 stone

Popworld host and Celebrity Gogglebox star Miquita Oliver has opened up about the correlation between her weight and career. During a conversation with singer Lily Allen, the star revealed how her career 'came back' when she lost weight.

"I find that a really difficult thing because when I lost loads of weight, my career came back," the star said on their podcast Miss Me? "I was also very focused, but [weight loss] was a huge part of it, and I have really confused emotions about that, because I've never been less good at my job, but I lost a lot of opportunities because of the way I was looking."

The star then revealed that when she lost weight, the opportunities came knocking again "and that you just can't deny."

Miquita admitted that she knew it was the nature of the industry - and that was what caused her to lose weight. She went on to say that if she was "three stone heavier", she probably wouldn't be working.

Lily, 39, revealed she also experienced the same thing and shared that when she lost weight in the mid-00s, she was praised for her new look. Talking to Miquita, Lily revealed she would often sleep for "three of four" days at a time and not eat. Yet people would continue to compliment Lily on her appearance but she was 'miserable'.

Lily revealed she's currently in a good place with her health - and that since leaving America six weeks ago, she hasn't worked out at all.

Miquita first became a household name in 2001 when she was hired as a presenter on Popworld. The Channel 4 show featured pop news, trivia, gossip, interviews and music videos, as well as musical performances from contemporary artists.

She then went on to present T4 (a strand of Channel 4) until 2010 when she was overheard insulting Kesha by the singer's management. As a result, Miquita's contract was not renewed.

In the mid-00s, Miquita hosted shows on BBC Radio One and BBC Radio 1Xtra but claimed to Heat Magazine that she was fired after calling Fearne Cotton a 'devil woman' in NME.

Miquita went on to have her own television show called The Month With Miquita which she hosted on 4Music, and continued to present for T4 until 2011. Since 2021, Miquitia has appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox with her mum, Andi Oliver - who is a chef and former singer.
