Sexual Harassment Scandal Rocks Malayalam Film Industry

Following the release of the Hema Committee report, several women in the Malayalam film industry have come forward with allegations of sexual harassment. Actress Sonia Malhar revealed shocking incidents of mistreatment and exploitation during her early career years.

Speaking to ANI, Malhar stated, "I entered the industry in 2013, and after doing one or two films, there was an incident on a film set in Thodupuzha. Despite receiving respect due to my social work background, I faced a terrifying incident where someone unexpectedly held me when I returned from the toilet." She added that this incident led to delayed payments and being replaced in films.

Malhar decided to come forward with her allegations after learning about similar experiences faced by other actresses from different states. Stating that the Hema Committee report's release and the silence from many people hurt her deeply, she emphasized the need for respect for women in the industry.

On August 27, actor Mohanlal resigned as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) following the allegations. Mohanlal and all executive members have resigned. Actor Minu Muneer accused her co-stars M Mukesh, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Idavela Babu of verbal and physical abuse, pushing for immediate resignations of those facing allegations.
