Hollywood Police Chief adopts retired K9

HOLLYWOOD, Ala. (WHNT) — Athos spent five years helping the Hollywood Police Department (HPD) with drug busts and fighting bad guys in the area.

"If I put that certain collar on, then he knows it's time to go to work," said Hollywood Police Chief Cecil Davis. "He's all about business then."

Athos was a full patrol dog with HPD and now, after five years of service, he has retired. However, he won't be staying too far away from the department.

"He has helped us make several cases," said Chief Davis. "He has helped us make several busts, not just this department. I'd say every department in Jackson County."

Athos will now enjoy his new home with the HPD police chief. After building an unbreakable bond with Athos, Davis just couldn't see him go.

"I said when and if they decide to retire him, I want him," Chief Davis said. "He was my best friend when I worked night shift 12 hours by myself. I had this old boy out there with me… I mean, it was just me and him a lot of times."

With years of hard work under his collar, Athos is now in for a life of luxury with the Davis family.

"No more jumping in and out of cars or chasing bad guys… he's going to be being spoiled and getting treats."

Athos is not only loved by everyone in the department but those in his new home as well.

"My kids love him," said Davis. "My whole family loves him."
