Why Patrick Mahomes' Mom Is Asking for Serious Prayers

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

Patrick Mahomes' mother, Randi Mahomes, has a serious request for prayers from Chiefs Kingdom.

On Sunday, September 29, Randi — who shares sons Patrick, 29, and Jackson, 24, with ex-husband Patrick Mahomes, Sr. — uploaded a photo watching the Kansas City Chiefs game from her father's hospital bedside. (In addition to her two sons with her ex, Randi is also mom to 12-year-old daughter Mia.)

"Watching game with daddy today… prayers please for my dad," she captioned the photo.

The Chiefs were away in the City of Angels on Sunday, taking on the Los Angeles Chargers, whom they defeated 17-10. Sunday's game marked the fourth win for the Chiefs this season; they are undefeated so far.

In addition to his maternal grandfather's undisclosed illness, Patrick has been facing a series of serious family issues as of late. Last week, his father was sentenced to 10 days in jail following the former Mets player's February DUI in addition to the small stint behind bars, Patrick Sr. will also be on probation for five years, have his license suspended for a year, and more.

As the Chiefs MVP continues to deal with family woes and concentrate on the field — hoping to earn his fourth Super Bowl ring in 2025 — he is also preparing for an even bigger life event: welcoming his third child with wife Brittany Mahomes.

The A-list couple, who have been together since high school and are already the proud parents of 3-year-old daughter Sterling and 1-year-old son Bronze, announced their exciting news in July.

Since then, however, Brittany has been in the spotlight not (just) for her pregnancy, but for her supposed political affiliations. After liking several Trump/Vance posts on social media, many Chiefs fans — and many more Taylor Swift fans — called out the Kansas City Current co-owner for her alleged views.

Patrick, for his part, was diplomatic when asked about his own political opinions.

"I think I've always said I don't want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever either way," the iconic quarterback told A to Z Sports earlier this month. "I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote, to inform people to do their own research and then make their best decision for them and their family."
