This Country's Daisy May Cooper set to star in The Traitors celebrity version

This Country star Daisy May Cooper is being lined up to appear in the first celebrity series of The Traitors.

The Am I Being Unreasonable? star, 38, is set to star in the BBC reality show, which sees Faithfuls pitted against secret Traitors, with contestants tasked with selecting who they think is telling the truth.

Daisy, who also stars on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, has previously appeared on reality series The Masked Singer, where she performed as Otter. But she also has experience bluffing to other celebrities, and whittling out liars, during an appearance on on Would I Lie To You in 2019.

A source said: “Daisy is perfect for the Traitors. Obviously her acting talents will help if she has to convince everyone she is not a Traitor, but she’s also really likeable and great fun, so she would make a great Faithful as well.”

However, the actress has previously said that her training at Rada was “traumatic”. “The tutors practised the Stanislavski Method,” she said earlier this year, describing a method that is supposed to help actors garner emotions for a role.

“Us students were made to talk about our experiences of rape and miscarriage in order to be as ‘real’ as possible. It was b*******. Acting is just pretending. You can either do it or you can’t.” However, she also said she is “open and honest”, explaining: “I just can’t be anything other than me. I have no filter at all.”

Other celebrities being lined up for the series include BBC Sport presenter Clare Balding, 53, Olympic diver Tom Daley, 30, and Stephen Fry, 67. Richard Osman, 53, has also been lined up, despite admitting he is a “terrible” liar. He said last year: “You could not find a worse spy. I would have been terrible. I’m too tall and if I have a secret, I tell everybody.” Richard appeared alongside Daisy in the same episode of Would I Lie To You.

Filming for the series, which is due to air next summer, has not yet started, but will be staged at Ardross Castle in Easter Ross in Scotland and hosted by Claudia Winkleman, like the civilian version.

The game will see celebrities divided into Traitors and Faithfuls, and requires cunning and the ability to astutely read other people, which is understood to be drawing huge interest from stars who have turned down other reality TV shows. A BBC spokeswoman said: "The Traitors is a game that includes lies and deception, thus it would be foolhardy for any Faithful to speculate before the game has begun.”

Daisy wrote and starred in This Country with her brother, Charlie, which won huge critical acclaim.

She is mum to three children, Pip, five, and three-year-old son Jack with her ex husband Will Weston and baby Benji in June with her boyfriend Anthony Huggins.

She praised the neonatal ward who cared for her and her prematurely born baby, calling the staff "superstars", and said to her new son: "You came a bit earlier than we expected and gave me the worst post op constipation that I nearly had to phone the Samaritans but my god you are perfect."
