CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office has released the name of the Hollywood man killed in a crash Tuesday morning.
James Gathers Murphy, 74, died at the scene of the crash, which happened at approximately 10:08 a.m. at the intersection of Towles Road and Salters Hill Road, Coroner Bobbi Jo O'Neal said.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office said the crash involved a moped and a second vehicle.
The moped and the other vehicle were traveling west on Highway 162 and as both approached Salters Hill Road, the moped driver started to turn left as the vehicle began passing him, Charleston County Sheriff's spokesperson Alexis Douglas said.
The two collided, throwing the moped off the roadway, she said.
First responders attempted life-saving measures but EMS said the moped driver died at the scene.
There was no word on whether charges would be filed.
