Gogglebox star slammed for refusing to sit in plane's middle seat due to 'celebrity' status

Gogglebox's Sandra Martin, right, has faced criticism

A star of hit TV series Gogglebox has been slammed for her behaviour on an aeroplane.

Former fan-favourite Sandra Martin took to social media to complain about being allocated the middle seat on a flight. However, her actions were met with huge backlash by her followers on Instagram.

She was travelling on a Ryanair flight when she discovered she would be sitting between two fellow passengers. In a clip, Sandra is seen inside the plane, standing in the aisle. She said: "There's no person there, I'm not showing your face and there's one person there and they want me to sit there.

"No, I'm a celebrity... I'm Sandra Gogglebox. I'm a celebrity... get me out of here! I cannot sit in that spot. No, I can't breathe, I'm gonna faint, I'm gonna fart."

She went on to explain how she was intending to wait until boarding was complete to see if there was a free seat elsewhere. Her petty actions left many followers online fuming. One user raged: "Who told you that you're a celebrity?," while another added: "Pre book and pay for your seat instead of acting entitled."

A third told her she was "embarrassing yourself," while a fourth said: "You think you’re entitled because you was on the tv? Oh please have a rest."

Thankfully for Sandra, a passenger beside her offered to swap, leaving Sandra able to eventually take her place in the aisle seat. She filmed a follow-up clip saying she now has "got her place" while showing the pair who helped her in her bid.

Last year, Sandra, who was on benefits before she shot to fame on the Channel 4 hit in 2013, claimed she bagged a staggering £100,000 annually from her stint on the show. Although Sandra can't reveal the exact figures Channel 4 dished out for her Gogglebox appearances, she did reveal to the Daily Mail: "It was the best wage I ever earned in my life and I got asked to do loads of celebrity appearances at events which Channel 4 would also pay me for."

She added: "I paid tax on an income of £100,000. In fact, ever since I started doing Gogglebox in 2012, I have earned around £100,000 every year." She went on to say that she only had to commit to Gogglebox two days a week for half the year, leaving her plenty of time to continue her long-standing tradition of selling a selection of items at car boot sales.
