Donald Trump announces 100% tariff on movies made outside the US.

Filmmaker Kabir Khan has reacted to American President Donald Trump's decision to impose a sweeping 100% import duty on movies made overseas. Recently, the Chandu Champion director spoke to NDTV when he mentioned that he isn't sure how the tariff would come into play since "every second Hollywood film" is also shot outside the US.

"I have no idea what he means when he says 'made outside of the United States' because every second Hollywood film is shot outside of the USA, the VFX is executed outside of the USA. And tariff on what? The ticket price? His statement is too broad to be understood properly. Firstly, let's see if he remembers this tomorrow when he wakes up," Kabir Khan said.

Bejoy Nambiar: US Audience Not Primary For Indian Films

On Monday night, filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar also shared his perspective on how the new tariff could impact Indian cinema. While acknowled ging the potential financial setback, Nambiar argued that Indian films are not created with the US market as their primary audience.

"America is a market for our films but I don't think we make films primarily keeping in mind the American market. It's another market alongside the other international sectors… our films are mainly keeping in mind the Indian audiences and the India market and of course the OTT market. Those are the biggest revenue sources for our films," Nambiar told News18 Showsha.

"Yes, these tariffs will adversely affect us but seeing the frequency with which every day the American government comes up with different tariffs for all different industries, I think films are another collateral that has happened. We'll have to see how the market responds going ahead," he noted.

Donald Trump's Tariff Announcement

On Monday, US President Donald Trump shared a series of posts on Truth Social (a social media platform he owns) and argued that America's film industry has been undermined by international productions.

"California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit! Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100 percent Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States," he wrote.

The Chelsea school, which overlooks the High Line and isn’t far from Holmes’ apartment in the same neighborhood, boasts a rooftop playground and a fitness center, plus a gym with full-sized basketball and volleyball courts.
