Fire crews extinguish blaze on top floor of Hollywood high-riseHOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Firefighters were battling a blaze at a high-rise building on Hollywood Beach on Tuesday evening.
It happened at the Edgewater Beach Towers at 400 N. Surf Road. The 12-story building, completed in 1970, is located along the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk.
"I saw smoke coming out through the window and through the door, and I ran aro und and came back downstairs again, and I went out and I tried to call 911," said building resident Alton Palmer.

"The resident of the affected apartment has been confirmed safe and unharmed," a spokesperson for Hollywood Fire Rescue told Local 10 News. "Additionally, an elderly female was transported to (HCA Florida) Aventura Hospital for further evaluation and care."
The spokesperson said first responders "are on scene working to contain the fire and ensure resident safety."
Additionally, officials said a firefighter and a police officer were also treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The man who lives in the unit that caught fire was seen speaking with police officers outside the building.
Authorities said power was out on the top two floors but was operational everywhere else.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the flames damaged any additional units in the building.
