The 1990s were no match for a dystopian future as âThe Hunger Gamesâ held off healthy debuts from an âAmerican Pieâ reunion and a âTitanicâ re-release.
Neither could sink âHunger Games,â which claimed the top spot at the box office for the third consecutive weekend with $33.5 million, according to studio estimates.
The haul marks a rebound of sorts for âHunger Games,â which saw last weekendâs grosses drop a steep 62 percent from its monstrous debut of $152.3 million last month, the third-highest opening on record. This weekendâs take marks a 43 percent drop, meaning the film should see a healthy run into summer.
âHunger Gamesâ drew crowds over Easter weekend, traditionally a slower time for theaters.
