Chris Brown beat Drake at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday evening, receiving VMAâs coveted Best Male Video moonman trophy; an honor Drake was up for, too. But thatâs not all Brown seemed to win Thursday night. Chris Brown and Rihanna had a glorious time at the VMAs while Drake seemed to remain the odd man out. Once all things are considered, Brown, who was seen greeting Rihanna with a kiss and a hug after she received Best Video Award, appeared to not only have bested Drake but he also appeared to have re-capture Rihanna.
According to a report from Hollywood Life, Chris won a VMA for Best Male Video for his song âTurn Up the Music.â And Drake? He was part of a joke host Kevin Hart told, but Chris was in on that as well!
Looking dapper in a gray suit and sunglasses, Brown sauntered onto the stage to accept his statue.
He addressed the crowd and the viewing audience briefly, saying, âWell, uh, Iâll make it real short. First and foremost I want to thank Team Breezy. This is my first time actually being able to direct a video by myself â" and bring [my] vision to life. So I just want to thank everybody â" all my management team, RCA, MTV, I thank everybody. I love yaâll â" my fans,â Chris said after receiving his award.
Brown beat out stiff competition from the likes of Justin Bieber and his NYC bottle battler Drake, proving that even though he has a bit of a bad reputation and is known for his temper, the fans still love him; as much as his ex RiRi does.
There were some concerns that Breezy and Dreezy in the house, along with Rihanna, might prove crazy, too, but no one stepped out of line. There werenât any home views shown of Chrisâs girlfriend Karrueche Tran, so itâs uncertain if she attended the VMAs or not.
All in all, Chris Brown had a great winning nightâ"as did Rihanna. And Drake didnât walk away empty handed after losing out on the big award, instead, he won the lightly regarded Best Hip-Hop Video award.
Hopefully the three of them arenât headed for some nightclub in L.A. right now. That could turn bad quickly! Fans will have to wait until Friday morning to learn what transpired following the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards!
It looks like MTV is taking sides in the whole Chris Brown-Drake feud. Brown won Best Male Video at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday night, besting his former friend, Drake. Earlier at the VMAs, host Kevin Hart joked about Brown and Drakeâs New York City nightclub feud, saying Drake had thrown the bottle in a misguided attempt to recycle. Brown didnât seem fazed by the jokes, and gave Hart a high five before accepting his Moonman statue. Brownâs ex-girlfriend Rihanna won for video of the year, while One Direction took home a number of awards, including best pop video and best new artist.
But it gets worst for Drake as a camera captured both Rihanna and Chris Brown giving each other a hug and a kiss amidst rumors that the two would be making some formal appearance together at the award show. Make of it what you may; I always wonder what role Karueche is really playing in Chris Brownâs life.
Interestingly, Brown received praise from an R&B legend earlier in the day, when Anita Baker applauded the singer and other young artists of the day on their ability to succeed professionally while dealing with personal trials and tribulations under public scrutiny.
âI also embraceâ¦whatever it is that has allowed these young ones to endure what they endure publicly, and to still be able to present themselves to us,â she admits. âHistorically, in my generation, all of my heroes and heroines have had issues and problems. We all do. Chris Brown is brilliant. That cat is crazy brilliant and I wish him the best.â
It may be a blur to some but I would argue that Drake has not forget his recent brawl with Brown when in the late hours of one June night and into early into the morning, a vicious bottle fight broke out between Chris Brown and Drake at the W.I.P New York City nightclub. At the center of the brutal melee was the beautiful, illustrious R&B superstar vocalist Rihanna. The 24-year-old singer has been romantically linked to both men, and on this night, that acquaintance proved to be a recipe for disaster. There are conflicting stories that would suggest that Brown made a gesture to offer Champagne to Drake. Now this part of the story has never been collaborated, but itâs reasonable to believe that something happened between the two that involved at least eye contact. It appears that the event was quickly followed by, what one witness has stated, flying chips of ice thrown in the direction where Brown was standing, and suddenly, a bottle was reportedly tossed from Brownâs table into the crowd, according to the New York Times. It was followed by four bottles hurled from Drakeâs area aimed directly at Brown. The place then erupted into an all-out fist and bottle fight that injured at least five people. Now this is one version of the so-called facts. I would concede that there are many versions of alleged facts as there are witnesses to the messy affair. However, whatever those other versions might show, itâs of no consequence to the argument Iâm about to share. The only thing we need to agree to is that Brown and Drake had an altercation, and at the center of that was Rihanna.
From this point on, the Chris Brown/Drake narrative seems to have a life of its own as it feeds our appetite for not only blood and gore but also romance. And why not? Rap music, along with the explicit sexual lyrics found in many of the top songs on the radio, has modern civilization starving for real romance. Hence the Brown-Rihanna-Drake triangle feeds a starved culture its necessary diet of true romance that we canât quite get enough of.
What at first was a story of love denied between Brown and Rihanna, like Romeo & Juliet, has become a classic love triangle resembling Shakespeareâs Othello. The story has evolved to feature Brown, Drake and Rihanna. Interestingly, there are spectators that want to see a blood bath because some of us get excited over drama thatâs not happening to us. Then there are others that hope the whole thing will only amount to just a few lawsuits. What Iâm afraid about is that this thing will turn into something more like the Greek tragedy Antigone or Shakespearian misfortune, Othello.
Love is a funny thing. It drives different people to do different things. Reports have recently been swirling about Rihannaâs depression over not being able to get back together with Brown. By the same token, itâs interesting that some of the same rumors have been circulating about Brown wanting to get back together with Rihanna. Drake appears to be the odd man out in this equation, and Iâm not sure he is altogether happy with that role.
Itâs really starting to shape up into an uncontrollable tragic narrative, and the order of events couldnât make this clearer.
We are spectators watching the whole thing unfold a little bit at a time. Two days ago, Brown was fanning the flames of this feud when he took to his Twitter account and lunched another one of his typical Chris Brown tirades, tweeting; âIt upsets u that Iâm not this hoodlum enraged, young black man you wanna portray me as. They did it to Mike⦠I can handle it! #imdone.â He just canât walk away, and thatâs exactly how tragedy is played out; it orders your behavior.
Letâs hope that we are misreading these signs and take the stance that this too will pass. But itâs not entirely up to us, itâs up to Chris Brown. He can perhaps stop this before itâs too late. I know that the Greeks were unable to prevent their own tragic outcomes, and Shakespeareâs tragedies seemed to follow same predictable course; unfortunately, it appears that neither will we be able to reverse the inevitable until itâs far too late. Just ask âAntigone.â
Oh, and before I forget, there seems to be another potential love triangle emerging between Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Kris Humphries. Keep an eye and ear pointed in that direction because it could get just as ugly.
To Be Continuedâ¦..
