Activision is starting Elsewhere Entertainment, a new game studio working on an all-new franchise in Warsaw, Poland.

The new studio team is hard at work creating a brand new narrative-based intellectual property. It's an internal studio, owned by Activision, which is part of Activision Blizzard and itself part of Microsoft Xbox. And it's not working on a game in the Call of Duty universe.

It's surprising to see Activision, which has perhaps 10 studios working on Call of Duty games, deciding to make a new intellectual property. But it's also a surprise in that its parent (a couple of divisions up from this management team) Microsoft decided to shut three studios last week and merge a fourth into another team. There's no connection between this decision to start a new studio and the shutdown of the other studios, from what I understand.

Activision has formed an all-new internal studio, Elsewhere Entertainment. Most of the team will be in Warsaw, Poland, with additional resources in the U.S., is exclusively focused on creating a new narrative-based and genre-defining triple-A franchise, Activision said.

"Built from the ground up, Elsewhere Entertainment is a premier and standalone studio dedicated to establishing an environment that inspires bold and diverse ideas," Activision said. "The team's underlying mission encourages everyone to explore and collaborate creatively to craft a franchise with an enduring legacy that resonates far beyond games."

The team at Elsewhere Entertainment consists of a collection of storytelling experts whose credits include The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Witcher, Cyberpunk, Destiny, Tom Clancy's The Division, and Far Cry. Activision has not named the studio founders yet. The team is hiring.

The new studio has full access to Activision's resources and tools as it continues to increase production and development. Elsewhere is opening its search for best-in-class talent from across the industry and around the world to help create a state-of-the-art and next generation gaming experience.

A couple of positions here and here were posted earlier this week.
