Mumbai: Police arrested a 'celebrity thief', identified as Vijay Jadhav alias Batla, within six hours of burglary at the house of Hiren Joshi, the grandson of late Kamghar Utkarsha Sabha leader Gulab Joshi, in Vile Parle (East).The burglary occurred between June 21 and 22 when Hiren and his family were on a trip to Goa. Jadhav allegedly stole Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, and gold, diamond and silver ornaments worth Rs 43.75 lakh.Police have recovered the entire stolen cash and goods.The theft was discovered by family caretaker, Shivaji Bharti, who informed Hiren's father, Mahesh (71). The police identified Jadhav with the help of CCTV footage, with a constable recognising him by his walking style, said a police officer from Vile Parle police station.Jadhav, known as a 'celebrity thief' in police cirecles had committed 16 similar offences, mostly targeting the homes of Bollywood actors in the western suburbs, the officer said. The police, however, did not reveal the names of the celebrities allegedly targeted by Jadhav. There are cases against him in Juhu and Vile Parle police stations apart from other police stations.According to the police, Jadhav's modus operandi involved targeting houses without safety grilles and entering through sliding windows.
