Movies Re-Bourne (Legacy): When Franchises Switch Actors - Reelz

Posted 08.11.12 by BrentJS

Even though it has "Bourne" in the title, you won't find the eponymous character played by Matt Damon kicking butt and taking names in The Bourne Legacy, the fourth installment of the movie franchise based on the works of Robert Ludlum. No, this time around, the butt-kicking and name-taking duties have been handed over to Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner), a black ops "sleeper" agent similar to Jason Bourne, who just so happens to have a little genetic tinkering thrown in for good measure.

But, Renner is hardly the first actor to step in and take over as the lead in an established franchise. As Jeremy Parsons discusses for Hollywood Dailies, the role of James Bond has been in flux since the franchise began, and the roles of Jack Ryan and Clarice Starling have been played by multiple actors, as well.

The Bourne Legacy was writer (with Dan Gilroy) and directed by Tony Gilroy, who wrote or co-wrote the three previous Bourne movies. The cast includes several familiar faces from previous Bourne movies, including David Strathairn as Noah Vosen, Albert Finney as Dr. Albert Hirsch, Joan Allen as FBI Agent Pamela Landy, and Scott Glenn as Ezra Kramer. New additions include Edward Norton as Byer, Rachel Weisz as Dr. Stephanie Snyder, Stacy Keach as Turso and Oscar Isaac as Number Three.
