The Campaign stumps for laughs - Washington Times

OKLAHOMA CITY, Aug 10, 2012 â€" Imagine, if you can, Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) from “Talladega Nights”, becoming a politician instead of a race car driver. Now imagine if comedian Zach Galifianakis’s cousin, or brother, 'Seth' decided to run for Congress in North Carolina.

Put those together and you have Cam Brady (Ferrell) vs. Marty Huggins (Galifianakis) in the new Warner Bros. comedy “The Campaign”.

Brady is the four time incumbent that is ready to walk into his fifth term unopposed. That is until a couple of evil CEO’s (Dan Akroyd and John Lithgow) try to steal the election with the diminutive and mustachioed Huggins as their puppet.

Debates, campaigning and punching babies ensue as these two battle it out to win the political race for a Congressional seat in a small Southern district. And we have a political satire born right in the middle of the real life 2012 election season.  

The movie has plenty of laugh out loud moments even if a few jokes fall flat. As is the case with most Ferrell movies, the characters and plot are absurd. 

Ferrell plays the usual over-confident buffoon that is not in on, read oblivious to, the joke. He has his usual ad-libs propelled laughs. A small spoiler alert, Ferrell's best scene is when he tries to get out of a DUI when pulled over by a cop (spoilers).

True fans of Galifianikis’s comedy will recognize Marty Huggins as his 'Seth' character who is Zach’s cousin/brother, even using a few punchlines from his stand up routine.

The movie is funny, but not hilarious.

This is probably one of theatrics that gets funnier the more times you watch it.

Probably worth checking out if you are a big fan of the two comedians, but otherwise, it is probably worth waiting for the DVD. It should not be a long wait.
