Suri Cruise leaves Chelsea Piers. Katie Holmes reportedly enrolled her in a pricey private school near their Chelsea apartment.

Suri Cruise is set to start first grade in style at a pricey new Manhattan private school this year.

Katie Holmes enrolled 6-year-old Suri at Avenues, a nearly $40,000-a-year school set to open this fall, Life & Style reported.

“Katie has eagerly been telling Suri all about the lunchrooms, basketball courts and different activities Avenues offers. Suri’s really excited about it,” a source told the magazine.

The Chelsea school, which overlooks the High Line and isn’t far from Holmes’ apartment in the same neighborhood, boasts a rooftop playground and a fitness center, plus a gym with full-sized basketball and volleyball courts.

The for-profit Tenth Ave. school stresses bilingual education, so Suri will learn in Mandarin or Spanish in addition to English.

The so-called “world school” plans to open branches in China, India, Africa, and Europe.

Avenues is run by entrepreneur Chris Whittle and was funded by two private equity investors.

Contacted by the Daily News, Avenues spokesman Bruce Bobbins said, “We don’t make any comment on any perspective student, current student, family member, anything.”

Previous reports claimed Suri would attend the prestigious all-girls Catholic school Convent of the Sacred Heart on the upper East Side, where Caroline Kennedy and Lady Gaga are among alumnae.

'So You Think You Can Dance' Crowns Ballet Dancers Season Champs - MTV.com

It all came down to this. After weeks of auditions and eliminations, season nine of "So You Think You Can Dance" crowned its first double winners Tuesday night. Eliana Girard and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp were selected as America's favorite female and male dancer in a thrilling night of final performances that included one from "Call Me Maybe" sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, who debuted her latest track "This Kiss."

Six of the season's judges were present for the finale: Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Adam Shankman, Debbie Allen, Lil' C and Tyce Diorio. Like finales past, they were given the task of selecting their favorite routines of the season. They ranged from Travis Wall's "Titanic"-inspired contemporary routine to NappyTabs' lyrical number "Love Cats."

It was a memorable night, indeed. The dance competition series took several looks back to their best moments from the audition tour, including our favorites like the Ninja Twins and the famed exorcist dancer, and pulled at our heart strings with an emotional look back at the final four's journey.

Contemporary dancer Tiffany Maher and inspiring animator Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer rounded out the top four. The season's underdog, Maher delivered week after week and the judges often referred to her as a "firecracker." As an untrained dancer, Spencer was the ultimate crowd favorite, introducing animation to the masses. "You stole the season," Lythgoe told a humbled Spencer, who wasn't the best technical dancer but certainly had one of the best hearts. Wespi-Tschopp was often criticized for not letting loose, although once he shed his inhibitions, the svelte ballet dancer soared beyond belief. And then there was Girard, the judge favorite and the one dancer who received little to any negative feedback during her entire run.

When the announcement was made of favorite female dancer, it was almost no surprise when Girard won and dropped to the floor; the announcement of favorite male dancer was a bit more shocking, as "SYTYCD" history has shown America usually chooses personality over technique, so when Wespi-Tschopp's name was delivered over Spencer's, it was a real moment. America got it right.

It's not over for the "SYTYCD" dancers just yet, though. The top 10 will get ready to tour their show across America in October.

Captain America gets new job title: US president - The Associated Press

Captain America gets new job title: US president

PHILADELPHIA (AP) â€" Captain America has a new job with perks, a spacious office and a title that others spend millions of dollars to get: Mr. President.

One of Marvel Entertainment's best-known heroes since he socked Adolf Hitler in the jaw in 1941, the sentinel of liberty will trade his New York City apartment for the White House in the pages of Marvel Comics' "The Ultimates," a series set in the Ultimate Comics universe where the U.S. has been torn apart by factionalism, out-of-control anti-mutant hysteria and outright secession.

A career soldier for whom duty trumps political parties, Steve Rogers is seen as the last hope for the country and wins election as a write-in candidate in issue No. 15, due out Wednesday, said Sam Humphries, who is writing the story line.

He called the election the next step in the character's long role as "America's defender," a job he's had since soldiering during World War II.

"Cap is answering the call of the people. This is not the first time he's stood up for an America in crisis. This is a further evolution in his role as America's defender, from soldier to superhero to president," Humphries said. "He didn't ask for this position, but if it helps him reunite America, then he'll take on the job."

Humphries said Captain America is not in any political party and the job, while not something he sought, is something he will do.

"Cap has been elected to do a job, and he's going to do whatever it takes to reunite America. He doesn't see his place as having press conferences in rose gardens, he sees his place as out in the field," Humphries said. "This will result in a unique and thrilling presidency we've never seen before, in history or in fiction."

Rogers will take the oath of office in issue No. 16, due out in October.

Snowboarding gold medalist Shaun White sorry for hotel antics - Chicago Tribune

Sept 18 (Reuters) - Olympic gold medal snowboarder Shaun White apologized on Tuesday for "unwise choices" that led to him being charged with public intoxication and vandalism after police said he pulled a fire alarm and caused the evacuation of a Tennessee hotel.

"I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests," White said in a post on his Facebook page.

"I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behavior," he added.

The 26-year-old winner of gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Games did not specify what he was celebrating.

Nashville police said the chain of events that led to White's arrest began about 2 a.m. on Sunday, when officers responded to a call from the luxury Loews Vanderbilt Hotel that an intoxicated man had set off the fire alarm.

Police said a concerned bystander apparently kept White from fleeing in a cab and told the driver he was going to call police.

"When White overheard their conversation, he allegedly kicked the citizen and fled on foot," police said in a statement. "The citizen reported that he chased White until White turned and ran into him, apparently causing White to fall backwards and strike his head against a fence."

The citizen did not want to prosecute White for assault, police said.

"Responding officers Sunday reported that White appeared to be extremely intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol," the police statement said.

Police said White refused to sign misdemeanor citations, so arrest warrants charging him with vandalism and public intoxication were issued on Sunday morning.

White was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries after hitting the fence. He was released late on Monday afternoon and remains free on his own recognizance, police said. (Reporting by Colleen Jenkins; Editing by Cynthia Johnston and Eric Beech)

(CBS/AP) "The Voice" will have a new look this spring. Usher and Shakira are joining singing competition show "The Voice" as new coaches next spring, when Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green take a break from the show, NBC said Monday.

Original coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will remain on board in season four, the network said. The singing contest began airing its third season last week.

Aguilera is going on the road to support her new album, while Green is developing new music and a sitcom based on his life for NBC.

"As I have expressed since Day One of the show ... I am a singer and performer first and I am so excited to get back to that love," Aguilera said in a statement. But she expressed eagerness about returning to "The Voice" in the future.

So did Green, who said he'll be back for season five. In the meantime, he invited Usher and Shakira to make themselves at home.

"The Voice" started as a midseason show and then added a fall cycle after posting solid ratings for NBC. The network's entertainment chief, Bob Greenblatt, said that created a time crunch for the coaches, and that NBC was glad to help Aguilera and Green take time from the program.

Aguilera's new album, "Lotus," comes out on Nov. 13. She teamed up with producers Alex Da Kid and Sia for the set, which will also feature a guest appearance by Green.

"This album is about self-expression and freedom," Aguilera said in a statement about her fifth studio release. "There is a lot I have gone through personally over the past few years and this record represents a rebirth for me. The record is about freedom and getting back to the root of who I am and what I love to do."

AEG, Owner of LA's Kings, Staples Arena, for Sale - ABC News

Anschutz Entertainment Group, the owner of the Staples Center arena and the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, and the top contender to build a stadium and bring the NFL back to Los Angeles, is up for sale, its parent company said Tuesday.

The Denver-based Anschutz Co. said in a statement that it is "commencing a process" to sell the subsidiary known as AEG and had hired Blackstone Advisory Partners as an adviser.

It wasn't immediately clear how far along the company is in the sale process, or whether it has entertained any offers, but the price for AEG could be well into the billions.

The sale would mean a major ground shift in sports and entertainment in Los Angeles and around the world.

AEG's holdings also include pro soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy, part-ownership of the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, and major entertainment and real estate holdings in downtown Los Angeles. Outside of L.A., AEG owns Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo and New York's Barclay's Center, the new home of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets. It also owns arenas in Sweden, China and Australia.

The sale would also throw uncertainty into LA's nearly two-decade attempt to bring the NFL back to the city. The City Council is considering the approval of plans for Farmers Field, a downtown stadium proposed by AEG.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said he has long known of the possibility of a sale, and both Denver billionaire Phillip Anschutz and AEG President Tim Leiweke have assured him the city's NFL hopes will remain the same.

"I have worked with both Phil Anschutz and Tim Leiweke for years to bring a football team to Los Angeles. I speak to both of them on a regular basis and I have known about this potential sale for some time," the mayor said in a statement Tuesday night. "I have the commitment from both of them that this won't affect plans for an NFL team to return to Los Angeles in the near future and so will not affect my support for moving ahead with Farmers Field."

Councilwoman Jan Perry, whose district includes the proposed stadium site, said she did not know about a pending sale but agreed that it wouldn't have adverse effects on courting an NFL team.

"The city has done a good job of protecting the taxpayer's interest in negotiating an agreement," Perry told The Associated Press, "so whoever steps into the shoes of Mr. Anschutz will have the same obligations."

Perry said the move "arguably is very positive" because she suspected it could lead to an enthusiastic new partner anxious to get in on the city's NFL prospects.

The potential sale was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

AEG transformed the Los Angeles landscape with the building of Staples Center and the later addition of the LA Live entertainment complex, helping to revitalize the city's long-neglected downtown and bring new energy and several championships to its sports teams.

Opening in 1999, the Staples Center is among the world's busiest arenas. It hosted six playoff games in four days for its main tenants â€" the NBA's Lakers and Clippers, and the NHL's Kings, who won their first Stanley Cup in June.

Clint Eastwood says chair routine “didn't get the response I wanted” - Chicago Sun-Times

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. â€" Clint Eastwood doesn’t shy away from the empty chair in the room.

Was he pleased with his controversial speech/pep talk/comedy routine at the Republican National Convention?

“It didn’t get the response I wanted,” Eastwood tells the Sun-Times. “I was hoping they would nominate me. My ambitions were tremendous.”

He says those words in the slow, distinctive Clint Eastwood voice.

“My only message was, I just wanted people to take the idolizing factor out of every contestant out there,” he says. “Look at the work and the background.”

How does he think he handled it? “I did it in a roundabout time that took more time than they would have liked,” he says.

Now that he cleared that one up, Eastwood would like to nominate another topic. In his new film, “Trouble with the Curve” (opening Friday), he plays Gus, an aging baseball scout who is losing his eyesight during what will likely be his last scouting mission. His uptight lawyer daughter (Amy Adams) must join him on the road, where they explore baseball and their failed relationship.

Gus is struggling with getting older, but at 82, Eastwood doesn’t seem to have the same trouble with the numbers.

“The pros are that you know a lot more now,” he says. “The con is that you start forgetting it all.”

He laughs. “To be honest with you, aging can be a fun process to some degree. Just ask me a year or so from now and I might give you the same answer.”

He is in amazing shape. “I exercise and play a lot of golf with Mr. Timberlake,” he says. That’s Justin Timberlake, also in “Trouble With the Curve” as a younger scout romancing Gus’ daughter.

“I eat a lot of salmon and broccoli, which is very good and good for you,” Eastwood says.

The director of “Unforgiven,” “Million Dollar Baby” and the recent “J. Edgar” says that it was easy to just step in front of the camera and leave the directing duties to someone else. It’s the first time he has acted for another director since “In the Line of Fire.”

“After ‘Gran Torino,’ I thought, ‘This is stupid to be doing both jobs,’ ” Eastwood says of acting and directing. “I’ve been in this business for some 40 years. Now I think, ‘Maybe, I should do just one or the other and allow myself some comfort zone.’ On this film, I didn’t have to do anything but act and watch Amy throw the ball.”

He doesn’t mind letting go of the reins.

“It’s nice for someone else to pilot the ship. It’s actually quite relaxing,” Eastwood says. “When the other fellows were working, I was practicing putting.

“I probably won’t act and direct in the same movie again, at least for the moment. Of course, I said I wasn’t going to act again. That changed. Sometimes, you just lie a lot.”

But he’s honest with himself about the roles in his future. “I look for roles that are within the age I’m in,” Eastwood says. “It would be ridiculous for me to even want to play a 35-year-old guy.

“They would have to get the sandblasting machine out. You know, the thing the guy uses to smooth out your pool!”

Next up for Eastwood is directing Beyonce in “A Star is Born.” The male lead is not cast. “ ‘Star is Born’ is a project I’ll do down the line,” he says. “It’s not imminent right now. It’s at least six months away.”

Music Review: Kanye West's GOOD Music compilation 'Cruel Summer' underwhelms - Washington Post

The putting-on-my-crew album has long been a rite of passage -- and stumbling block -- for rap stars. Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation “Cruel Summer” fails in the same way most do: It’s a disjointed assemblage of rhyme styles and perspectives with no overarching musical direction. In short, a mixtape.

Not that there’s anything wrong with mixtapes. They’re the buzz-building lifeblood of the rap game. But they’ve got an intentionally short shelf-life, forgotten after a few weeks. And despite West’s oversight, “Cruel Summer” is utterly disposable â€" one-liners and posturing, beat switches and orchestral flourishes that are momentarily entertaining but don’t cohere.

The thing is, West knows how to surround himself with talent: John Legend backed his very first tour. He flirted with a super-group featuring Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell and famously paired with Jay-Z last year for “Watch The Throne.”

And there is plenty of potential on display here. Producer Hit-Boy lends his signature martial drums and throbbing bass to “Clique,” ‘’Cold” and “Higher,” all standouts. Coke rap veteran Pusha T is at his snarling best trading bars with West on “New God Flow” and R. Kelly lifts opener “To The World” with exuberant arrogance.

West offers a few fascinating, self-conscious peeks inside his bubble -- $6,000 shoes! Tax worries! Kim K love! -- but none of the introspection that leavened the braggadocio in “Watch The Throne.” And the rappers around him -- including Kid Cudi, 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Cyhi the Prince -- simply don’t find much to say. They circle the tired topic of the Illuminati in “The Morning,” bask in their own glory on “The One” and match Chicago teen Chief Keef’s rude immaturity on “I Don’t Like (Remix).”

There’s more repetition than you would expect for an album with only a dozen songs (including five that had been either released or leaked online during the actual summer). West again quotes a Notorious B.I.G. line about three Mikes: Tyson, Jackson, Jordan. Only this time he lumps in Michael Phelps with the above group, saying he “had to take it to another realm. Because everything around me got me underwhelmed.” Unfortunately for hip-hop fans, it’s “Cruel Summer” itself that underwhelms.

CHECK THIS TRACK OUT: In the addictive head-nodder “Clique,” Jay-Z pops up to join in the boasting and Kanye gets brutally honest about Kim Kardashian: “My girl a superstar all from a home movie.”

Is Nicki Minaj's 'American Idol' Move A Win For Hip-Hop? - MTV.com

There is no doubt about it, Nicki Minaj scored a huge win this week when she was announced as one of the new judges on "American Idol," but what does Nick's new gig mean for hip-hop as a whole?

Well, Wiz Khalifa told MTV News that if the YMCMB Barb could judge "Idol," then the weed-loving MC himself could judge another singing competition. The notion doesn't sound so far-fetched to Karen Civil, who runs her own blog at KarenCivil.com and oversees the social networking accounts for Lil Wayne and Dr. Dre's Beats by Dre headphone line. "I can see Wiz hosting one of those shows, even though he smokes a lot," she told MTV News.

Civil believes that the "Idol" move is a win-win for both Fox and Nicki Minaj. "Nicki, at this point, is universal, and now, she gets to bring in these new set of fans. People who weren't familiar with her are going to be familiar with her," she said, also pointing out what makes Nicki so attractive for primetime television. "They need her, they need her audience, she's a very popular person and her fans are going to tune into everything that she does, so that equals viewership for them."

Brian Miller, content director at RapRadar.com said that his site didn't post anything "Idol" related last season, but now that Nicki the Ninja has joined Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey and country star Keith Urban at the judge's table, things just may change a little. "Maybe if Nicki has a certain highlight, we'll post it, but I still can't see covering it every week."

Miller doesn't expect to see rap opening singing competitions' flood gates all of a sudden. However, he believes that artists like Nicki have already achieved a fair amount of pop success, and that's why she is attractive to "Idol." Not only does Minaj rap, but she sings, dances, sells cosmetics and has even done voiceover work in "Ice Age 4;" her crossover success makes her a clear representative to the mainstream audience.

"I don't think Nas would ever get $8 million for judging someone in a hip-hop competition, you have to be a pop star to acquire that kind of money," he said. "If you're not in a pop lane, you're never going to ever get this kind of exposure or these kind of crossover looks."

It's true. MCs who grind the most outside of the booth reap the most reward â€" even Nas has expanded beyond the studio with acting roles and business endeavors (like 12 Society and Guerilla Union). Civil believes that any rapper wanting to achieve significant success must branch out and do other things, as Nicki Minaj has done continually.

"No rapper just stays a rapper," Civil said. "Hip-hop is a business, at the end of the day. You come in rapping and then you become an entrepreneur, you start with clothing lines and liquor and X,Y,Z. She's doing something different and the fact that she's getting this opportunity is great within itself."

For Nicki Minaj and for hip-hop.

“Cap is answering the call of the people. This is not the first time he’s stood up for an America in crisis. This is a further evolution in his role as America’s defender, from soldier to superhero to president,” Humphries said. “He didn’t ask for this position, but if it helps him reunite America, then he’ll take on the job.”

Humphries said Captain America is not in any political party and the job, while not something he sought, is something he will do.

“Cap has been elected to do a job, and he’s going to do whatever it takes to reunite America. He doesn’t see his place as having press conferences in rose gardens, he sees his place as out in the field,” Humphries said. “This will result in a unique and thrilling presidency we’ve never seen before, in history or in fiction.”

Rogers will take the oath of office in issue No. 16, due out in October.

Clint Eastwood on THE empty chair: 'If somebody's dumb enough to ask me to go ... - New York Daily News

Clint Eastwood talked about Romney and Obama while he was promoting his new movie, “Trouble with the Curve,” on Extra.

Clint Eastwood talks about Romney and Obama while promoting his new movie, “Trouble with the Curve,” on Extra.

Even Clint Eastwood isn’t defending Mitt Romney for inviting him to speak at the Republican National Convention.

When asked about his infamous performance with an empty chair during an interview with Extra, Eastwood quickly passed the buck to his down-on-his-luck candidate.

“If somebody's dumb enough to ask me to go to a political convention and say something, they're gonna have to take what they get," he said, acknowledging that his comedy routine didn’t get unanimously glowing reviews.

CLINT EASTWOOD SPEAKS OUT ABOUT HIS BIZARRE GOP CONVENTION SPEECH - AND NOT TO AN EMPTY CHAIR

“People loved it or hated it and that’s fine,” he said. “That’s what it was supposed to be.”

But Eastwood still had nice things to say about Romney, expressing hope that as president he would “be a little more organized, a little more business-wise” than President Obama.

The interview was apparently filmed before Romney’s latest campaign headache involving leaked video from a high-priced fundraiser that showed the Republican candidate calling 47 percent of Americans government freeloaders.

Eastwood, 82, had more tepid praise for the president after he was told that Obama had called himself a huge fan of the actor and director â€" even after his RNC skit.

NOW IT’S THE DEMOCRATS’ CHANCE TO TOP GOP’S BUZZED-ABOUT CLINT EASTWOOD MOMENT

“Well, great. Well, I think he can be very gracious when he wants to be. That’s fine,” Eastwood said. “And I have no problem with him at all. I just have a problem with the situation that we’re in right now.”

“It’s nothing personal,” he added of Obama. “When he came in, I thought it was great. I thought the multiculturalism, multiracialism was great, all that kind of stuff.”

Clint Eastwood says “it’s done” and that he never looks back, when asked about chatting with an empty chair during his address to the Republican National Convention.

“But to me, it’s just about the work,” he concluded.

Eastwood, who was promoting his new movie, “Trouble with the Curve,” was also asked if he would make the same decision to do the empty chair routine, if given the chance to change his mind.

“I don’t know, I never look backwards. It’s done and it’s done. I probably would. I wouldn’t be afraid of it.”

Snowboarding gold medalist Shaun White sorry for hotel antics - Reuters

NASHVILLE, Tennessee | Mon Sep 17, 2012 9:54pm EDT

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - Olympic gold medal snowboarder Shaun White has been charged with public intoxication and vandalism after allegedly pulling the fire alarm and causing the evacuation of a luxury hotel in Nashville, authorities said on Monday.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said the chain of events that led to White's arrest began about 2 a.m. Sunday, when officers responded to a call from Lowes Vanderbilt Hotel that an intoxicated man had set off the fire alarm.

Police said a concerned bystander apparently kept White, 26, who won gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Games, from fleeing in a cab. The citizen kept the cab from leaving the hotel and told the driver he was going to call police.

"When White overheard their conversation, he allegedly kicked the citizen and fled on foot," according to the police. "The citizen reported that he chased White until White turned and ran into him, apparently causing White to fall backwards and strike his head against a fence."

The citizen did not want to prosecute White for assault, according to police.

"Responding officers Sunday reported that White appeared to be extremely intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol," according to the police.

They said White refused to sign misdemeanor citations so arrest warrants charging him with vandalism and public intoxication were issued Sunday morning.

White was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries after hitting the fence. He was released late Monday afternoon and remains free on his own recognizance, police said.

The upscale hotel caters to visiting celebrities, such as touring rock acts, as well as professional sports teams.

'Revolution,' buoyed by 'The Voice' lead in, scores revolutionary ratings for NBC - New York Daily News

NBC/Bob Mahoney/NBC

Actress Tracy Spiridakos has no reason to be afraid: her new drama series, 'Revolution,' scored a dramatic debut.

"Revolution" could be a revelation for NBC.

The new drama about life in a world where all the lights have gone out debuted Monday night with 11.65 million viewers.

Even better for NBC, it had the highest share of younger viewers, 18 to 49 years old, of any drama debut in three years, since ABC's "V."

RELATED: CREATOR & CAST ON 'REVOLUTION'S' POWER TRIP

"Revolution" stars Billy Burke as Miles Matheson and Tracy Spiridakos as Charlie Matheson, two leaders of a band of rebels trying to prevent murderous tyrants from taking over the world.

Among other things, they are wrestling these tyrants for the key to control of the world, which is being able to turn the power back on.

"Revolution," created by J.J. Abrams of "Lost" and "Fringe" and Eric Kripke of "Supernatural," is TV's latest attempt to sell a world-in-peril mystery with a long story arc.

As Billy Burke shows, there's plenty of fight in the new drama.

Since "Lost," several have failed, including "FlashForward," "Terra Nova" and "V."

"Revolution" looks as if it will focus heavily on week-to-week action dramas while it advances the longer story.

"Revolution" was helped Monday night by its lead-in show, "The Voice," which had 13.36 million viewers, and most shows lose viewers after the initial sampling.

But if "Revolution" holds anywhere near its Monday numbers, especially among younger viewers, NBC could have its first new drama hit in years.

Nicki Minaj Says She Answered Call For 'American Idol' Gig As A 'Fan' - MTV.com

Nicki Minaj draws inspiration from a wide range of places, but you'd be surprised at what motivated her to make the unexpected jump
to a hot seat on the upcoming 12th season of "American Idol."

"I remember watching 'American Idol' in the first season and feeling inspired," Minaj said on Monday during a press conference announcing her ascendancy to the panel. "I spoke to [season 6 winner] Jordin Sparks the other day and here she is starring in a movie ['Sparkle'] and I said to her, 'I remember watching you and picking up my phone."

Truth be told, Nicki didn't vote for Sparks â€" the most recent female to win the competition â€" but she remembered that her mother liked Jordin and that she and her little brother preferred beatboxing faux-hawker Blake Lewis.

"Because my little brother was more obsessed over the Blake person because he was like, more, you know, hip-hop, whatever," she said, throwing in a little shoulder shimmy. "But I told her [Sparks] that, 'you know you're a part of history, kind of. Because I remember calling and seeing your face and being inspired and hearing your story."

Nicki also explained why, after a number of offers to join the panels of similar programs in the past, she decided to pick up the phone this time and answers "Idol"'s call. "This is such a credible brand," she said. "It's real...ly serious, it's real deal it's not anything else other than really looking for talent. If I can be a part of that I'm really down for it."

Minaj wore a demure straight blonde wig and subtly patterned short-sleeved top for the presser, seriously toning-down her typically Technicolor hair and curve-flaunting look for her debut as a member of the "Idol" family.

Body language experts will have to be consulted, but it was hard to tell if the rumors of already-bubbling tension between her and fellow new judge Mariah Carey are more than just that. Carey has already laughed off the reports of a feud,
saying, "How are we gonna feud in two days?" during the same visit to the "Idol" set at Lincoln Center on Monday.

"It's fun, it's music, it's singing, it's laughter," she added. Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Could 'Gangnam Style' Get An English Makeover? - MTV.com

America just can't seem to get enough of Korean pop star Psy. Sitting comfortably on top of the iTunes singles charts, his massive hit, "Gangnam Style" has millions of fans mimicking his gallop-like dance moves and singing along to the lyrics ... even if they are unsure of their meaning.

"Gangnam Style" is a parody of life in Gangnam, a wealthy neighborhood in the South Korean city of Seoul known for its party scene and luxurious style. It finds the star rapping about what type of girl he is looking for and what he would find in Gangnam.

But just because he has become a household name in America, don't expect Psy to change any of the lyrics to cater to his new fanbase. After all, he told MTV News, the Korean version is what everyone fell in love with.

To date, the song has garnered more than 212 million views on YouTube. "The thing is, already like 160 something million people saw the video all over the world, so in that way if I change it now and then like 160 people getting confused," Psy said. "So for this song I think verbal is not that important, nonverbal, I think just the dance moves and how it sounds and how it looks I think that was the point of the story."

However, Psy will be working on a new album soon. He was recently signed by Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, to Schoolboy Records, and Psy admits that when he met Braun, he instantly knew it was a good fit.

"When I see Scooter Braun I feel like I'm watching a mirror because we have really same character mental-wise, working hard, not sleeping, working hard, partying hard, drinking hard and then working hard, loving life, loving music," Psy said. "When we talk together we are brother from a different mother. He was the very first manager that I met in the U.S., but he was the first and last because we are so similar."

After he's fully established himself in the U.S., Psy plans on returning to Korea to release his next single. And even though "Gangnam Style" won't be released in English, he says its follow-up will.

"And after I can be somebody in the U.S. and then of course I have to release now the single and that will be in English," he said. "I got all the equipment media stuff in Korea so I have to go back and I got to write another song and then I have to bring it to here."

Another thing he will be bringing back from Korea are some of his old dance moves. Before his galloping horse move that helped launch him to international stardom, there was his bird dance from his debut song, appropriately titled "Bird."

"I've done this 12 years and I've done these kinds of moves my entire career, so I actually have several more left," Psy said. "So I'm going to make some new songs with my old moves."

While he didn't give us a preview of these old moves, he did make one thing clear: "No more animals."

Christina Aguilera's Voice hiatus: Here come Shakira and Usher (+video) - Christian Science Monitor

Christina Aguilera's Voice hiatus: The pop diva and Cee Lo Green will be taking a break from 'The Voice.'  The reason for the hiatus: Christian Aguilera is releasing a new album and going on tour. Colombian pop star Shakira and singer/songwriter Usher will fill their chairs next season.

The prospects for bedazzled outfits on “The Voice” just diminished significantly: NBC announced Monday that Shakira and Usher will join the show’s judges panel in the spring, filling in for pant-fearing Christina Aguilera and sequin-loving Cee Lo Green.

The move will allow the veteran judges some breathing room as they embark on other projects. Christina Aguilera is releasing a new album and going on tour. Green is working on new music and developing a scripted comedy series for the network based on his life. Not to worry, ladies (and gentlemen): Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will still be around.

“We are thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to ‘The Voice,’” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt in a statement. “Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and CeeLo. The participants on our show benefit from our coaches’ expertise and their continued success in the music business allows for significant new contributions to the contestants when they return.”

Wanting to ride “The Voice” wave some more after solid ratings, the network added a fall cycle of the show, which launched earlier this month. The move adds to the celebrity coaches’ already-full schedules but has proved somewhat advantageous in other ways. Thought ratings were down from the previous season, this season’s premiere still drew people away from the second-season premiere of Fox’s “The X Factor” and Britney Spears’ GIF-able expressions.

Will the new additions keep things from going south? Usher recently secured his fourth No. 1 album, ‘Looking for Myself” â€" his seventh studio album. He was the latest to be interviewed by Oprah Winfrey for the OWN series “Next Chapter.” And Shakira has a forthcoming English album in the works, with the first single expected to drop later this month.

The Kate Debate: How private are your private parts? - CNN

By Graham Winch

updated 2:19 PM EDT, Mon September 17, 2012

Attorneys for the royal family will be in a Paris court Monday trying to prevent the further publication of Kate Middleton’s topless photos after pictures of the Duchess were released by a European tabloid, causing an international firestorm.

A St. James Palace spokesperson says the attorneys want an injunction stopping other tabloids from printing the pictures. The lawyers are also asking that the pictures be taken offline. Damages are also part of their demands.

The editor-in-chief for a French magazine which published the photos, “Closer,” has defended the pictures, saying they were taken from a public road near the remote country home where the duchess was vacationing. CNN/HLN are not showing the photos.

Read more: In Session legal experts say the royals may have a strong legal argument

French privacy laws provide more protection than American laws.

So what protections do Americans have if something like this happens to you? Here's a rundown of the issues:

Invasion of Privacy

Generally speaking, the First Amendment allows people in public places to take pictures. If you can see it, you can shoot it. However, if someone uses a telephoto lens to peer into private property it may be a breach of privacy, and could be grounds for a lawsuit. It all depends on whether someone on that private property had a reasonable expectation of privacy. For example, if private property is open to the public, like a restaurant, there isn’t generally a reasonable expectation of privacy. Therefore, photos taken with a telephoto lens could be legal. It is also important to understand that laws vary from state to state, and this may not apply in every jurisdiction.

California law gives greater privacy protections than most states, because of its many celebrity constituents. Courts have also been known to be harsher on the paparazzi in California and hand out harsher fines. For example, Jennifer Aniston was awarded $550,000 and an apology from a photographer who used a high-powered telephoto lens to take a picture of her in her backyard wearing only underwear.

In 2009, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a law that makes it a crime for tabloids to take or sell unauthorized photos of celebrities in “personal or familial activity.” Fines for violating this crime can reach $50,000.

Trespass

If someone comes onto your private property to take photos, it’s not only an invasion of privacy, but also a trespass. This could be grounds for a lawsuit, and it may also be criminal activity.

Right to Publicity

Generally, the right of publicity is the right to control the commercial use of your identity such as your name, image and likeness. For example, this means that businesses can’t use your likeness in commercials without your permission. This may seem like it only applies to celebrities, but it applies to everyone. It is common for schools to ask parents to waive their child’s right to privacy for promotional events. It is also important to understand that the right of publicity does not apply to the press because of the First Amendment.

Kate & William Win French Ruling Barring Publication of Topless Photos - People Magazine

09/18/2012 at 07:50 AM EDT

The Duchess and Duke of Cambridge

Landov

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have won their first legal battle in an attempt to block further publication of photos of the Duchess sunbathing topless while on vacation in France.

The photos must not be published again, a French court ruled Tuesday, according to the BBC. And Closer magazine, which was the first to obtain and print them, was ordered to give the originals to the couple within 24 hours.

A royal source said, "They welcome the injunction that's been granted. They always believed the law was broken and that they were entitled to their privacy."

The ruling applies only to France. The Irish Daily Star and the Italian magazine Chi have already republished the photos â€" the latter in a 26-page section on Monday.

British newspapers, so far, have refrained from printing the photos. But on Monday in Dublin, the publishers of the Irish Daily Star released the following statement: "Independent Star Limited has suspended editor Michael O'Kane with immediate effect, pending an investigation into the circumstances that led to the Irish Daily Star re-publishing pages from the French magazine Closer, which contained images of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge."

The statement went on to say: "Independent Star Ltd. has no further comment pending conclusion of the joint investigation by the newspaper's shareholders."

William and Kate, though keeping a brave face during the embarrassing episode while on a tour of Asia, have also filed a criminal complaint against Closer and will be seeking damages, a spokesperson for Clarence House said on Monday.

French attorney Vincent Tolédano, a specialist in media law tells PEOPLE, "Closer" cannot publish these images any longer. Now it is up to the criminal investigation to try and determine who the photographer is. In court, Closer maintained they didn't own the rights to the images, and now it is up to the police ... to investigate and determine the particulars."

He added, "There are freedom of press and protection of sources issues in play now."
